AWR and Auriga Measurement Systems to Provide Measurement and Model Extraction Solution
AWR’s Microwave Office Design Suite is Core of Auriga’s Measurement Extraction Software
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. and LOWELL, Mass. January 31, 2005 — Applied Wave Research, Inc. (AWR), a leading provider of high-frequency electronic design automation (EDA) tools, and Auriga Measurement Systems, LLC (Auriga), a supplier of active/passive device modeling, characterization systems, and manufacturing test systems, today announced an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement that provides designers and modeling engineers with a powerful new modeling and extraction solution. Under the terms of the agreement, Auriga will embed AWR’s Microwave Office design software into Auriga Modeling Station, the company’s soon-to-be-released measurement and model extraction test system.
Accurate simulation models are critical for the successful design of both silicon and gallium arsenide (GaAs) integrated circuit (IC) components on printed circuit boards (PCBs) or embedded in modules. Traditional measurement systems and the associated software for model extraction can be difficult to use because of the closed nature of these systems. It is essential to have a system that provides broader choices in the selection of models and test equipment.
“One thing we hear over and over again from designers in all media is the need for high-quality models,” said James Spoto, AWR president and CEO. “Through the AWR unified data model architecture, Microwave Office design suite delivers unprecedented openness, flexibility, and ease-of-use. As the core of Auriga Modeling Station software, Microwave Office technology will certainly enhance the product’s ability to meet demand for more accurate models and a wider variety of test equipment.”
“We want to make a real difference in the way microwave circuits and modules are designed and developed,” said Dr. Yusuke Tajima, Director of Modeling and Design in Auriga, who leads Auriga’s modeling business area. “Demands on modeling are becoming tougher as system requirements increase in sophistication every year. Designers are dealing with more complex signal environments and new types of devices all the time. The device modeling capability in the industry is falling behind these demands, and Auriga is going to provide a solution.”
About Auriga Modeling Station
Auriga Modeling Station is designed to control measurement systems and extract model parameters in a production environment as well as in engineering labs. Auriga plans to introduce the product at the International Microwave Symposium in June 2005.
About Microwave Office Design Suite
AWR's Microwave Office software is built on an advanced architecture, the unique core technology of which is a modern, object-oriented data model that is inherently open and flexible compared to legacy design tools. The Microwave Office architecture and industry-standard application programming interface give designers easy access to the underlying data structures, enabling seamless integration with other best-in-class tools and design environments.

About Auriga Measurement Systems, LLC
Auriga Measurement Systems, LLC is focused on delivering a new standard to the microwave community in the Active/Passive Device Modeling, Characterization Systems, and Manufacturing Test Systems areas. Auriga believes that the close link between measurement science and device physics is critical to improve the current state of device modeling, and that a sound understanding of the basic physics of current active devices is necessary to properly design and implement the measurement systems used to derive device models. Auriga blends these diverse technologies under one organization with the intent to lead the industry to a higher modeling and measurement standard. Auriga is located at Suite 205, 650 Suffolk Street, Lowell, MA 01854. For additional information about the company, please visit, www.auriga-ms.com or call 978-441-1117.
